PSA: There isn’t a restricted version Porsche/Rolls Royce/Adidas NFT. It is a rip-off.

Per week or two in the past, whereas mindlessly scrolling, a put up caught my eye. Rolls Royce was apparently providing a restricted version NFT drop to the primary 750 customers who signed up. I am unable to lie, it fooled me for a break up second – the thought of a high-end retailer doing a small drop had me able to rush in to a mistake.

Scams are, as everyone knows, fairly widespread within the crypto neighborhood… however I used to be stunned {that a} rip-off like this was displaying up on my reddit feed. I are likely to observe fairly well-moderated communities, and after I checked once more a couple of hours later I observed that not solely was the put up nonetheless up, but it surely had a ton of upvotes. I began taking a look at issues a bit extra intently from there.

This put up was taking place on the /r/NEM subreddit. I adopted the NEM challenge again within the 2017-2018 days and fully forgot about it. It seems to be just like the sub has successfully died off, however I by no means unsubscribed from the neighborhood. It seems that there is no extra lively moderation of the sub anymore so it is now simply full to the brim with rip-off posts which are getting upvote-botted. I began wanting on the subs for different small (or lifeless) crypto tasks and positive sufficient, they’re all over.

Simply needed to allow you to guys know – in case you’re seeing these posts take over a crypto sub that you simply’re in, it is secure to imagine the sub is lifeless and has no extra moderation. Get out of there and clear your feed up.

  3. I’m usually so careful with this stuff that I even miss out on real opportunities, but I’m ok with losing out some opportunities because I wasn’t certain than lose everything because I was greedy or something

  4. A verified Warner bros. account on Instagram ran an advertisement for looney tunes NFT. The account was verified and I opened the link and signed the contract for NFT. My wallet is mostly empty with nothing in it so nothing happened, but I am pretty sure I signed a contract which gives all access to my wallet.
Please be cautious of opening links even if the account seems verified. Most are scams and if they are free, they are definitely a scam.

  5. Things like this are far more harmful to crypto than meets the eye as well. On the surface it’s just taking a few gullible peoples money but we’re never going to reach mass adoption if your layman has to navigate a minefield of increasingly more sophisticated scams to not lose all their money permanently with no recourse. Subreddits really need to clamp down on things like this.

  6. As a side note, I think some of the Cons for NFTs by the CointestMod in this thread is old/out of date and doesnt apply anymore, since it says it’s on the Ethereum blockchain mostly but using PoW, while in fact it was moved to PoS months ago, dropping the power consumption by 99.95%. PayPal consumes almost 27 times more power than all of Ethereum now.

  7. I felt for the Porsche one about a week ago that was posted on the Ethereum subreddit. Luckily the remaining balance on that wallet was around $1, but still has a worthless ENS and two POAPs that I really like. I just disconnected the app from my wallet. Is it secure to use after is disconnected?
